Le titulaire d’une licence annotée d’une qualification de vol aux instruments peut voler en VFR au-dessus de la couche (VFR OTT), ainsi que dans des conditions météorologiques de vol aux instruments (IMC) selon les règles de vol au instruments (IFR).

Pour obtenir une qualification de vol aux instruments, il faut avoir complété :

- 50 heures de vol-voyage en qualité de commandant de bord

- 40 heures de temps aux instruments (dont pas plus de 20 heures au sol) incluant :

  • 5 heures de vol aux instruments en double avec un instructeur
  • 5 heures à bord d’un avion pour une qualification de groupe 1, 2 ou 3, ou d'un hélicoptère pour une qualification de groupe 4
  • 15 heures de vol aux instruments en double guidé par une personne qualifiée (voir RAC 425.21(9));
  • Un vol-voyage d’au moins 100 NM, dans des conditions IMC simulées ou réelles, conformément à un plan de vol IFR comportant une approche aux instruments selon les minimums à deux endroits différents
Canadian pilot licences and qualifications

The holder of a licence endorsed with an Instrument Rating may fly VFR Over-the-Top (VFR OTT) and in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) in accordance with the instrument flight rules (IFR).

The flight time requirement to obtain an Instrument Rating is:

- 50 hours of cross-country flight as pilot-in-command

- 40 hours of instrument time (a maximum of 20 hours may be instrument ground time) including:

  • 5 hours of dual instrument flight time with an instructor
  • 5 hours in aeroplanes for a Group 1, 2 or 3 rating, or in helicopters for a Group 4 rating
  • 15 hours of dual instrument flight time provided by a qualified person (see CARs 425.21(9))
  • One dual cross-country flight under simulated or actual IMC conditions of a minimum of 100 NM; the flight is to be conducted in accordance with an IFR flight plan to include, at two different locations, an instrument approach to minima
